Sweetwater Behavioral Health and Wellness is excited to announce an upcoming in person two-day workshop on Family Based Therapy (FBT) for children and adolescents with eating disorders (ED).  This is intended for providers who are interested in providing FBT, the most effective treatment available for children and adolescents with EDs.

    2.     Establish knowledge for identifying referral sources and the role of a treatment team

    3.     Establish an understanding of reading adolescent growth charts

    4.     Enumerate basic principles of general nutrition with adolescents

    5.     Understand medical complications associated with eating disorders

    6.     Explain the role of a physician during FBT treatment phases

    7.     Establish a functional knowledge of FBT for child/adolescent eating disorders

    8.     Understand the research supporting FBT as a key treatment for child/adolescent eating disorders

    9.     Identify the basic principles of FBT for adolescents with eating disorders

    10.  Explain how to set up a treatment team

    11.  Describe the first meeting and intake process for FBT

    12.  Understand what information to obtain from clients when assessing for an eating disorder

    13.  Establish a base of language to use with the family and patient during FBT

    14.  Describe ways to present information to clients and families regarding treatment expectations

    15.  Explain the role of the family meal in FBT and its core components

    16.  Establish knowledge in how to execute a family meal session of FBT

    17.  Describe Phase I of FBT and key issues that arise in Phase I

    18.  Understand how to address common challenges of Phase I

    19.  Establish knowledge of Phase II of FBT

    20.  Understand how to identify key patient characteristics to transition between phases

    21.  Explain the goals of Phase III of FBT and ending treatment with families

    22.  Establish knowledge of how to summarize treatment and end treatment well

    23.  Describe challenging issues to address during FBT (e.g., family structures, engaging in sports)

    24.  Understand potential referral lines and process of referring patients during FBT

This program is offered for 12 CE hours of social work continuing education through co-sponsorship of the University of Pittsburgh's School of Social Work, a Council on Social Work Education accredited school and therefore a PA pre-approved provider of social work continuing education.
